Families often come to therapy with a communication problem
Yet, things feel so heated or so cold that family members don’t know where to begin talking that problem through. This makes sense. It can be hard to find an answer together with constant arguments, pervasive passive aggression, complete cutoffs, or some confusing combination of all of the above.
Family therapy at Home and Hearth is not only about calling that problem what it is. It’s about addressing underlying roots of the problem by exploring questions like:
“What are some of the patterns that keep communication this way?”
“How does your family history help you understand how it got to this point?”
“What are some ways of bringing warmth back to how you support one another?”
“How can you come back together to celebrate your family story?
My role as the family therapist is to guide the exploration of these questions while ensuring everyone’s right to emotional safety and autonomy are respected.
I enjoy adding fun and humor to the process through connecting over stories from movies, books, games, and TV that your family enjoys together. I welcome bringing board games into our shared space as a way to encourage hope and healing. This can look like any combination of the kinds of therapy detailed below.
